You know when you were a little kid and you went to a park and they had slides and swings and a merry-go-round? It was free and it was fun.
Disneyland is more fun. Way more fun. But it isn’t free, usually.
The funny thing about being an author is that sometimes free is way more fun. For example, in April I gave away over 10,000 copies of my book, The Dream, for absolutely free! Why would I do that? Because it is fun! And because it got my work into the hands of over 10,000 potential new readers to start a fan base for the rest of my writing career. Plus, it is pretty cool to see it go as high as #27 on Amazon’s free list (right next to #27 on the best seller’s list at the time, Safe Haven, by someone who already is a famous author.)
Now that my new book is coming out (Adelaide and the Battle of the Bands – July 23, 2013!) I hope that some of those readers liked my first book and might find themselves interested in paying for it. That is how independent, unknown authors make a name for themselves in today’s market.
But I want to do more. What I mean by that is that I want to give out more free stuff. Starting today. For those of you who were kind enough to pay a little bit or nothing at all for my first book (or even if you didn’t bother to pick it up at all), I want to give you a little treat.
I wrote a short story based on one of the minor characters in The Dream and I am giving it away for free! All you have to do to get my short story, titled Unforgettable, is sign up for updates from this website (form below). That way I can let you know about other great deals (like more free short stories when I continue the series) and future books I’m writing and you’ll get Unforgettable sent to your e-mail automatically! It’s fun. It’s free. I hope you enjoy it.
By the way, if you are already getting this update in your e-mail, there should be a link near the top of this update. Thanks everyone!
